An end-to-end journey at high altitude along the beauty and vulnerability of the Alps
— ZERO TO ZERO —
A sea-to-sea journey at high altitude along the beauty and vulnerability of the Alps
The trail
From sea-level to sea-level
- Hi, I'm Sander, and Zero to Zero has been my thru-hiking dream in the making for quite some time. I'm absolutely determined to make it a reality in 2024.
- More specifically, I will venture into crossing the Alps on foot from the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Triëste (Italy) to the coast of the Ligurian Sea in Monaco.
- I will do this in a philosophy of staying as high up in altitude as possible, mostly in alpine terrain and traversing many alpine summits.
Beauty & Vulnerability
Discover the Alps with me
- The Alps and mountain ranges in general are beautiful in every aspect of what they represent. I want to take this opportunity to showcase people this beauty from the most remote places.
- Sadly enough, the Alps are also challenged tremendously and climate change can be stared directly in the face here. Therefore, this trail is also a mission to show the impact of climate change and the challenges it represents.
- Discover the Alps' beauty and vulnerability in the blog and views I will regularly bring forward or follow me for more on social media.
CO2 impact
Shape together the future of the Alps
- Global warming is forever changing the face of the Alps an other mountain ranges. Expected is that by 2050 the glaciers in the Alps will lose half of their volume and some of them are even subject to total disappearance.
- Nonetheless, there is still a chance to change the future if we act now and merge numerous efforts of each one of us into an impact at scale.
- Check your current carbon footprint, how it is composed and where you could take action to protect and preserve alpine nature for future generations.
